Human Tissue Guidance Course

Scenario

Currently, a chief experimental officer must run through documentation, individually, with anyone working in labs where Human Tissue is handled. This is to ensure everyone is aware of policies, procedures, and the University’s compliance with the Human Tissue Act legislation. This can be time-consuming, especially when these requests for guidance are at random points throughout the year.

Solution

The Science Digital Education team helped to create an online course for the mass dissemination of this compulsory guidance. We worked alongside the Chief Experimental Officer (CEO) to create a Rise 360 course, which also included a quiz with a pass rate assigned. This ensured a consistent delivery of essential legislative information to a wide audience in order for them to work in a lab, whilst checking they retained and understood that information.

Interactivity Including Scenario-Based Learning

We embedded images and included interactive elements, for example the scenario-based scene below, to engage the students/staff with this essential information. Virtual scenarios can help learners explore real-world decisions, making both good judgments and errors in a safe environment. They are also a great way to engage your learners. Instead of just reading content and clicking through, learners can absorb the material and picture themselves in a real-life scenario.

Analytics

This course was added to Oracle Learn, which can track those who have enrolled on the course, those who are still completing, and finally, those who have completed the course. The CEO can use this information to allow entry to the lab and also as confirmation, legally, which students/staff have completed the course.

Re-Allocation of Resources

Implementing this change on how the CEO delivered the compulsory guidance has enabled them to concentrate on more specific queries, giving more hands-on support and guidance.

Quick Tip

If our scoping exercise determines Rise 360 is a solution for your request, you may find it useful to familiarise yourself with the types of interactions that can be embedded into the course. Read more about these on the Rise 360 Lesson and Block Types support page. These are not the only interactions that can be added, but they are a great starting point when designing and developing a course.
